Peace and Democracy

Part of the Sustainable Development Goals Programme

Peace and democracy are integral to the achievement of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16), which addresses the root causes of conflict and insecurity. They provide the foundational principles and mechanisms for realizing SDG 16’s goal of fostering peaceful, just, and sustainable societies.

The International Day of Democracy and World Peace Day are both commemorated annually during the month of September as occasions to underscore the importance of democratic values and principles and recognize the vital role of peace for human progress and well-being.

This hub gathers research on peace and democracy related to SDG 16, published across PվƵ. It features selected research from politics, law, philosophy, and social sciences, featured in PվƵ’s journals, special issues and cross-journal article collections, as well as selected books and book chapters.
