Elements in our transition to open

For over 20 years, open access (OA) has been in our DNA. From providing researchers with support for open data, to a leading OA books program, pioneering approaches to peer review, to integrating preprinting and early sharing, we are committed to driving forward the policies, products, and approaches to make open science possible for all.

This pioneering spirit still underpins our commitment to open science. By 2024, we aim to have 50% of all content published fully OA. We can meet this goal, by continuing to pave the way towards an open science future through Transformative agreements (TA) and the introduction of Transformative Journals (TJs) and by working closely with you, our researchers, to provide you with the tools and platforms to enable you to publish OA, regardless of location or discipline.

What do we mean when we talk about open?

Here, we have brought together a selection of content, from a brand new series - ‘The open series’ - of videos, to white papers, reports and case studies, all demonstrating some of the key initiatives in our journey to open science and how publishing OA can benefit our research community.

Did you know?

Researchers who publish in our fully OA journals benefit from some of the highest use, re-use and engagement rates compared to other fully OA publishers—for example authors can expect to see their work being downloaded up to 5x more and receiving higher downloads and citations than research published with other fully OA publishers.
